About MyVAClaimGuide

Built by a veteran, for veterans. Paying it forward.

Our Mission

MyVAClaimGuide exists for one simple reason: to help veterans get the disability rating they've earned without paying thousands to lawyers or claim companies.

I built this site after my own journey from 10% to 100% Permanent and Total (P&T). Along the way, I learned that the VA system isn't impossible to navigate — but it helps to have a roadmap.

Everything here is 100% free. No hidden fees. No upsells. No premium membership. Just the information I wish someone had handed me when I started.

Why I Built This VA Disability Claim Guide

When I first filed for VA benefits after I got out, the pain didn't ease up — it kept digging in deeper.

In the military, we learned fast: if the NCOs asked, "Are you hurt or injured?" you said "hurt," popped an 800mg Motrin, and kept humping. "Broke-dick" and "chairborne ranger" jokes made sure no one went to sick call. The pain rarely hit paper, and years later I had very little proof of the issues I was living with.

Years later, my wife watched the way I moved and told me she was proud of my service. Then she added, "The VA failed you. You did so much for this country, and I am disgusted by how they have treated you."

That was the nudge I needed. By 2017, I had already used private insurance from my civilian job and paid cash out of pocket for two surgeries to fix the mess the service left behind.

I reopened my claim that year and discovered I had one date wrong — something the VA had been hung up on and using to deny me. They finally corrected it and awarded me 10%. When 2019 rolled around, the VA cut me open for a third surgery, dropped in screws and cadaver parts, and I was still sitting at 10%, with the rest of my claims denied.

I eventually brought in a "no-win, no-fee" firm. Those companies have their place. They're good at picking the low-hanging fruit and getting veterans service-connected for obvious, lower-percentage conditions. They moved me from 10% to 60%, but that's where they hit a wall.

When it came to the complex issues, their cookie-cutter approach stalled out. They provided virtual DBQs from physician assistants who never actually examined me. The VA rejected that evidence, and I was hit with repeated denials for "lack of nexus."

I realized then that if I wanted to bridge the gap from 60% to 100%, I couldn't rely on a firm chasing easy wins. I had to take control and do the deep dive myself.

I spent months digging through Reddit, Facebook groups, Google searches, and VA regulations, piecing the puzzle together one rule at a time.

Once I finally connected the dots for that last climb, I went from 60% to 100% Permanent and Total in under a year.

I built this site to house every resource, regulation, and hard-earned lesson I learned along the way — so you don't have to dig through the trenches like I did.
